How we got engaged
I had planned to propose on our anniversary, September 19th, but the ring was just burning a hole in my pocket. My nerves were getting shot. By the time the 16th rolled around, I couldn't wait any longer.
I asked Vanessa to take a walk with me in the park near our house. Once we had gotten in a little ways under the Autumnal canopy, I "stopped to tie my shoe." I reached into my pocket and pulled out the ring. Already on one knee, I waited. Vanessa, who had her back to me, was chatting about her day, unaware of what I was doing. She continued talking and I continued to wait. Finally, I said "Vanessa" to grab her attention.
She turned around to see me kneeling there and exclaimed "You're doing this NOW?" Well, at least I surprised her. :) I looked up at her and said, "Vanessa, will you eat ice cream with me for the rest of your life?"
She said yes and crushed me in a gigantic hug. Best walk ever.
